ADL Welcomes Texas Legislature Resolutions Condemning Anti-Semitism
Austin, Texas, March 24, 2005 ... The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) welcomed resolutions passed in the Texas House and Senate condemning anti-Semitism, commending the ADL for its efforts to fight anti-Semitism and other forms of hatred, and encouraging all Texans to fight anti-Semitism, defend democracy and protect civil rights throughout the world.
ADL especially would like to thank Texas State Senator Rodney Ellis (D-Houston), and Texas State Representative Scott Hochberg (D-Houston) for introducing the resolutions.
ADL Southwest Regional Director Martin B. Cominsky and ADL North Texas-Oklahoma Regional Director Mark L. Briskman issued this statement:
The resolutions passed by Texas legislators condemning anti-Semitism come at a critical time, when anti-Semitism is on the rise globally. Clearly, Senator Ellis, Representative Hochberg, and their colleagues recognize how important it is to fight anti-Semitism and hatred in all its forms.
We are also confident that our legislators represent a large majority of their constituents when they promote a continued commitment to the fight against hatred and discrimination in this state. We applaud our legislators for taking this important stand.
The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
