ADL Decries Chicago Cemetery Vandalism
Chicago, IL, May 15, 2007 ... The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today condemned the anti-Semitic vandalism of a Northwest Side Jewish cemetery, in which headstones were reportedly toppled, urns emptied and a swastika etched on a mausoleum.
"We decry this senseless and hateful act of disrespect toward the deceased," said Lonnie Nasatir, Regional Director of the Anti-Defamation League's Greater Chicago Office. "We know that Chicago Police will investigate this incident seriously as a hate crime."
The vandalism at Rosemont Park Cemetery is believed to have occurred Sunday night or early Monday morning. Chicago Police are investigating.
The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
