ADL Condemns Incidents Of Anti-Semitic Graffiti at Chicago-area Synagogue
Chicago, IL. March 28, 2012 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) condemns three incidents of anti-Semitic graffiti found at Anshe Emet, a conservative synagogue and day school in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago.
A video shows one person allegedly committing the vandalism between 12:45 a.m. and 1 a.m. The graffiti included the statements "Jews murder," "Jews rape," and "Jews kill." The graffiti located at the parking lot was covered with tarps before the children arrived at the school.
"On the heels of the tragedy in Toulouse, France, the hateful vandalism at Anshe Emet is an indication that anti-Semitism is alive and rampant around the world. We deplore these despicable and hateful acts which affect not only the Jewish community but the community at large," said Lonnie Nasatir, ADL Regional Director.
"We applaud the Chicago Police Department for taking these incidents seriously. We hope that the perpetrator(s) will be found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
The League is working closely with Anshe Emet and local law enforcement as the investigation proceeds.
ADL's experts are providing information and assistance to investigators working to solve the case and will be offering security resources to Jewish institutions in the Chicago-land area.
