Atlanta, July 2, 2003... The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) hailed the unanimous decision by the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta that the presence of a Ten Commandments monument in the rotunda of the Alabama State Judicial Building violates the U.S. Constitution.

The ADL had signed on to the amicus curiae brief filed by over 40 multi-faith Alabama clergy, the Baptist Joint Committee on Public Affairs, The Interfaith Alliance and the Interfaith Alliance of Alabama. Deborah Lauter, Southeast Regional Director of the Anti-Defamation League commented, "We are gratified that the Court of Appeals agreed with our position that true religious liberty means freedom from having the government impose religion on its citizens. We were pleased to see the Court's strong rebuke of Justice Moore and are confident that this decision will stand up to any further appeal. "
