New York, NY, October 13, 2010 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today hailed a federal court decision enjoining enforcement of the United States military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy.

ADL issued the following statement:

The decision to ban enforcement of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is a welcome rejection of an unjust, ineffective and discriminatory policy that prevents talented Americans from serving in our armed forces solely on the basis of their sexual orientation.

 

ADL firmly believes that hiring and firing decisions should be based on merit and performance -- not on personal characteristics.  No one should be dismissed from a job because of real or perceived sexual orientation.

 

Now that its enforcement has been enjoined, it is our hope that Congress will take the logical next step and repeal this unjust policy.
