ADL Condemns Attack On Sikh Cab Driver

San Francisco, CA, November 30, 2010 ... The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is urging law enforcement to thoroughly investigate the attack on a Sikh cab driver in Sacramento, CA.

Harbhajan Singh was attacked on November 29 after picking up a fare. The assailants reportedly made references to Osama Bin Laden while beating and robbing the victim who was wearing a dastar - a Sikh turban.

Daniel S. Sandman, ADL Regional Director for the Central Pacific Region, issued the following statement:

This brutal incident is deplorable.  People of all faiths should be able to feel secure when expressing their religious beliefs.  This hard working man was merely doing his job when he was apparently singled out because of his appearance.  We are confident that law enforcement will do all it can to track down the culprits and, if appropriate, bring hate crime charges at the conclusion of the investigation.

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
