New York, NY, October 9, 2003… With the college term well under way and the increasing frequency of anti-Israel rallies taking place on college and university campuses across the country, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) announces the release of Fighting Back: A Handbook for Responding to Anti-Israel Rallies on College and University Campuses.  The handbook is designed to keep students aware of their rights and offer them response strategies for when these protests cross the line and become expressions of anti-Semitism.

"Many of these anti-Israel rallies don't foster healthy political debate on the situation in the Middle East," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director.  "Often, they cross the line and become platforms for anti-Semitic rhetoric.  Students who feel intimidated, threatened or harassed need to understand what their rights are and what options are available to them."

Fighting Back features guidelines on free speech on public and private campuses, legal rights and remedies, questions and answers about responding to anti-Israeli activities as well as effective response strategies for students when they encounter anti-Semitic speech on campus. 

The handbook will be distributed online to campuses across the county.
