Incoming Baruch College Freshman Receive ADL Anti-Bias And Diversity Training
New York, NY, August 26, 2011 … More than 1,000 incoming freshman to Baruch College in New York received anti-bias and diversity training as part of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) A CAMPUS OF DIFFERENCE™ program.
This is the sixth year ADL is working with Baruch College to deliver the interactive diversity training program.
"This interactive diversity training session provides the freshman class with the necessary skills, knowledge and awareness to promote and sustain and inclusive and respectful college campus environment," said Debra Stogel, Director of ADL's A CAMPUS OF DIFFERENCE™ Program. "We are excited to continue our partnership with Baruch College to nurture a campus environment that is free of prejudice and bigotry."
A CAMPUS OF DIFFERENCE™ explores strategies to achieve:
· Increased staff and student Initiatives, camaraderie and morale
· Improved opportunities for recruitment and promotion
· Better cooperation, increased productivity and decreased absenteeism
· Better student relations and improved campus loyalty
Students participate in an interactive training program designed to challenge prejudice, discrimination and all forms of bigotry, to foster intergroup understanding, to equip participants to live and work in a diverse world, and to create inclusive learning environments.
Dr. Mark Spergel, Director of Student Orientation at Baruch College, has said of the ADL program, "By the end of the training, students were moved and underwent a process of self-reflection they did not think possible. The workshop delivered a powerful message about the mission of the College to our incoming class."
From 2004 - 2008, the League delivered its anti-bias diversity training program at Baruch College to nearly 1,400 new students annually, reaching an estimated 7,000 students.
