New York, NY, October 15, 2009 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) welcomed the arrests of two suspects in the brutal assault of a gay man in Queens, and applauded the authorities for their diligence in the case.
The alleged assailants reportedly shouted anti-gay slurs at the victim before launching into a violent attack outside a delicatessen in College Point, Queens. The victim, Jack Price, 49, was hospitalized with numerous injuries.
Ron Meier, ADL New York Regional Director, issued the following statement:
We applaud the New York City Police Department and the United States Marshals Service for their diligence in locating and apprehending the alleged perpetrators of this vicious assault, and for pursuing hate crime charges.
Hate crimes inflict damage not only on the victims, but on the entire community. No person should ever be targeted because of their sexual orientation.
It is reassuring that the authorities continue to treat such incidents with the seriousness they deserve, and we look forward to seeing the assailants prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
