ADL Statement on the CBS Miniseries "Hitler: The Rise of Evil"
"Hitler: The Rise of Evil" teaches a significant lesson of history in a powerful way. Not only does the brilliant portrayal by Robert Carlyle show Hitler for the monster that he was, but the film shows how many times he could have been challenged and wasn't. It makes us understand how fragile democracy is and how potent evil is.
Through the medium of television millions will be reached, especially young people, many of whom will learn for the first time how Hitler was able to rise to power, a story not usually told in popular Holocaust history. We commend CBS and Alliance Atlantis for this important program.
The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
