Update: The restaurant owner subsequently decided to change the name of his eatery, removing the Hitler theme. More

New York, NY, August 23, 2006 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today expressed outrage about reports of the opening of a Hitler-themed restaurant in Mumbai.
ADL National Director Abraham H. Foxman said in a statement; "Adolf Hitler presided over the mass murder of six million Jews and others in an attempt to dominate the world. The Nazi imagery used in the new 'Hitler's Cross' restaurant denigrates the memory of the victims and does a dangerous disservice to the Mumbai community by downplaying the horrors of the Holocaust."
The fact that restaurant owner, Puneet Sablok has claimed to local media that the name and theme of his new eatery are only meant to attract attention and that the use of posters of Hitler and swastikas are just decoration, show his ignorance and inability to comprehend these historical events. He needs to be educated about the horrors of the Holocaust and Hitler.
We urge government officials to make sure the Mumbai community is provided with an accurate account of the events of World War II and the Holocaust."
