New York, N.Y., January 29, 2001 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) expressed outrage at Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasir Arafat’s anti-Israel diatribe during the world economic forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Calling it yet another example of the Palestinians publicly airing a message of hate and antagonism while Israel continues to reach out to the Palestinians in peace, Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director said, "Chairman Arafat has revealed again the Palestinian Authority’s inability to publicly recognize Israel as a peace partner. Ironically, his disparaging remarks were delivered just hours after Israel once again showed its good faith in negotiations at Taba."

Mr. Foxman added, "Chairman Arafat has given little indication that he is prepared to promote genuine reconciliation with Israel as his remarks continue to promote a message of hate and antagonism. It has been clear since the start of the Oslo Process that the Palestinian leadership has not promoted peace and reconciliation with Israel within Palestinian society."
