ADL Rolls Out New Campus Campaign, Israel: The Facts
New York, N.Y., March 3, 2003 … Many campuses have been plagued with efforts to delegitimize the Jewish State by equating Israel with apartheid South Africa and Nazi Germany. In an effort to counter this challenge, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has created an aggressive new campaign, Israel: the Facts, targeting college students with fliers bearing messages that highlight Israeli democracy and its protection of freedom and diversity.
"We are addressing a critical gap on campus by presenting Israel in a positive light, as a democratic country that shares its democratic ideals with America," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director. "Israel: the Facts contains information that fosters educated debate on the situation in the Middle East from a pro-Israel perspective."
Each flier addresses a separate freedom including:
- Freedom of the press
- Religious freedom
- Protection for Gays and Lesbians
Students are directed to www.adl.org/facts at the bottom of each flier, where they can find more information about Israel and the Middle East conflict and download and print out additional copies.
ADL will distribute more than 80,000 fliers to Hillels and pro-Israel student groups on campuses across the United States and, in partnership with the Union of Jewish Students, 40,000 fliers to universities in the United Kingdom. Among the colleges to receive the fliers include Yale University, University of Michigan, Columbia University and Binghamton University.
The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
