ADL Dismayed at Offensive Remarks Made by Yesha Leader About U.S. Ambassador Dan Kurtzer

Jerusalem, January 8, 2003...The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is dismayed at the inappropriate remarks made by the Adi Mintz, Director General of the Council of Judea, Samaria and Gaza (YESHA) in referring to United States Ambassador Dan Kurtzer as a "Jewboy".

Mr. Mintz made this and other prejudicial remarks in an interview to the Hebrew daily Yom Le Yom.

ADL's Israel Office issued the following statement:

Ambassador Dan Kurtzer is a professional diplomat who represents the United States with honor and dignity.

While
Adi Mintz has every right to have his own opinions about the Ambassador and voice them in any forum he chooses, we believe that in using such derogatory, inappropriate language he demeans both himself and the movement he represents.

Mr. Mintz should be aware that using such language perpetuates stereotypes and hateful images of all the Jewish people.

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
