ADL Deplores Vandalism of Muslim Cemetery in West Bank
Jerusalem, June 8, 2007 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today strongly and vehemently condemned the desecration of a Muslim cemetery in the West Bank village of Kfil Harith.
Several dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish worshippers were reportedly responsible for the vandalism while visiting a nearby venerated Jewish holy site under Israeli army escort.
Dozens of tombstones were shattered and "Death to Arabs" was reportedly spray painted on some graves.
ADL's Israel Office issued the following statement:
ADL strongly condemns the desecration of a Muslim graveyard in Kfil Harith. We deplore this act of violent of intolerance on Islamic sites just as we are horrified by attacks on Jewish cemeteries and holy places.
It is particularly worrisome that the vandalism may have taken place under the watchful eyes of Israeli soldiers who were escorting the Jewish worshippers.
We are confident that Israeli authorities will track down the perpetrators of this tragic, criminal act and prosecute to the full extent of the law.
The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
