ADL Welcomes U.N. Secretary General's Order to Investigate Rocket Attacks on Israel

New York, NY, November 9, 2007 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) expressed appreciation to U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for ordering an investigation into the launching of rockets at Israel from a U.N.-run school building in the Gaza Strip.  The rockets were fired by Palestinian terrorists from the town of Beit Hanoun.

In a letter to Secretary General Ban, ADL said Israeli citizens, particularly in the southern city of Sderot, have been suffering without reprieve from numerous rocket attacks launched by terrorists in the Gaza Strip.

"It is essential that the international community make it clear to Hamas that these attacks are unacceptable," said Glen S. Lewy, ADL National Chair, and Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director.  "It is further incumbent on the United Nations to ensure that its facilities, institutions and staff are uninvolved in such activities."

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
