ADL Applauds the University of California, Irvine's Sanctioning of the Muslim Student Union
Costa Mesa, CA, June 14, 2010 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today applauded the University of California, Irvine's decision to sanction the Muslim Students Union (MSU) for their organized attempt to silence Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren.
The university's investigation into the matter uncovered evidence that members of the MSU organized a calculated demonstration at Ambassador Oren's speech in violation of university policy against disorderly conduct, obstructing university activities, furnishing false information and other campus policies.
ADL's Board Chair, Marc Schneider, and Regional Director, Dr. Kevin O'Grady, issued the following statement:
We applaud the university's decision to take action against the MSU for violating Ambassador Oren's free speech rights and for being dishonest about its role in planning the disruption.In ruling for these sanctions against the MSU, the University of California, Irvine acted with care and integrity. ADL congratulates their decision.
