ADL Welcomes U.N. Statement Condemning Attacks Against Israeli Diplomats

New York, NY, February 27, 2012…The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today welcomed a U.N. Security Council statement condemning the recent terror attack in New Delhi, India and the attempted attack in Tbilisi, Georgia, which both targeted Israeli diplomatic personnel.

This statement is the first time that the U.N. Security Council has condemned a terror attack against Israelis since 2005.

Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, issued the following statement:

We welcome the decision by the U.N. Security Council to condemn the attacks aimed at Israeli diplomatic targets in New Delhi, India and Tbilisi, Georgia. The U.N. Security Council's condemnation is as a strong international rejection of terrorism and violence, and is representative of the U.N. mandate to combat threats against international peace and security.

This statement marks the first time in seven years that the U.N. Security Council has condemned terrorism against Israelis targets. We call on U.N. member states to continue speaking out against similar incidents, and work within the framework of international law to prosecute those responsible for organizing and carrying out these attacks.
