ADL Condemns Arson Attack On West Bank Mosque

New York, NY, June 19, 2012 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) strongly condemned an arson attack on a West Bank mosque, which authorities believe was carried out by Israeli Jewish right-wing extremists.

During the morning of June 19, perpetrators vandalized and partially set on fire the mosque, which is located in the village of Jabaa near Ramallah. Graffiti spray-painted on the mosque walls included slogans opposing the upcoming state evacuation of Ulpana, a neighborhood in the Israeli settlement of Beit El.

"Mosques are repeatedly being subjected to attack by Jewish extremists and this activity is completely unacceptable," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director. "The attack on the Jabaa mosque and other recent, similar incidents against mosques are fundamentally an affront to the values of Israel. We share Prime Minister Netanyahu's outrage that 'this was the work of intolerant, irresponsible lawbreakers.'"

ADL has spoken out against previous arson attacks on mosques including the historic Nebi Akasha mosque in Jerusalem and a mosque in the northern Arab-Israeli village of Tuba- Zangariyye.
