Denver, CO, June 22, 2005 ... The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) welcomed the statement issued today by Fisher DeBerry, head football coach of the U.S. Air Force Academy, concerning issues of religious intolerance at the Academy.
Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, and Bruce DeBoskey, Mountain States Regional Director issued the following statement:
We are pleased that on the day when both the United States Air Force and the Air Force Academy have declared their commitment to the importance of maintaining the separation of church and state throughout the institutions, Coach Fisher DeBerry has made it clear that he will, in the future, be a leading and contributing member of the same team.
We welcome the Coach's commitment to his own faith, his respect for the faiths of others and his understanding of how some of his past actions 'crossed the line of acceptable practices.'
ADL looks forward to continuing to work with the Air Force Academy as it implements programs to redress these problems and create a respectful and inclusive environment for all cadets and staff."
Through its A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute, ADL provides diversity and anti-bias training and resources for the community, schools and law enforcement officials.
