ADL Deplores the Murder of Nigerian Christians
New York, NY, December 27, 2011 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today denounced a spate of "vile and heinous" bombings that murdered Nigerian Christians during the Christmas holiday.
"We join with Pope Benedict XVI, and other religious and civic leaders of good will, in condemning this vile and heinous terrorist attack on worshippers during this holy day," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director. "Once again we must repeat loudly: No circumstances ever justify acts of terrorism, and we must all continue to stand together to oppose it with all our strength and resources."
The most deadly of several bombing incidents happened on Christmas Day at a Roman Catholic Church in Madalla, Nigeria, a town just outside the capital of Abuja. The attack murdered more than 30 people and injured hundreds who were leaving Christmas mass, and devastated surrounding buildings and cars.
A few hours after the Madalla attack, blasts were reported at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Church in the centrally-located town of Jos and at a church in Gadaka in the northern state of Yobe.
An Islamist extremist group, Boko Haram, claimed responsibility for the attacks.
