, NY, November 6, 2009 …
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), calling the proceeding "tainted from the start," condemned the vote by United Nations General Assembly endorsing the biased and flawed Goldstone Commission report on the 2009 conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

"The United Nations General Assembly has long promoted an anti-Israel agenda through the Arab group and its enablers, so the outcome of the vote was hardly surprising and tainted from the start," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director.  "We appreciate the 18 countries that took the moral high ground and voted against this resolution, and hope that members of the Security Council will follow their lead should the report be referred to them."

The nonbinding resolution recommends the report be referred to the U.N. Security Council and the contracting parties of the Fourth Geneva Convention for further consideration.  In the end, 114 states voted in favor of the resolution, with 18 opposed and 44 abstaining.

"We were surprised and disappointed that France, Russia and the United Kingdom did not join with the United States in registering a 'no' vote," said Mr. Foxman. "These are close allies of the United States who had also voiced concerns about the report."

The United States, Australia, Canada, Germany, Hungary, Italy and Poland were among the 18 nations voting against the resolution.
