ADL Statement on the Appointment of Bishop Egan to New York
New York, NY, May 11, 2000 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today said it looked forward to working with Bishop Edward M. Egan as the new head the New York Archdiocese.
Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, issued the following statement:
We extend our sincere congratulations to Bishop Edward M. Egan on his appointment to head the New York Archdiocese. It is our hope that Bishop Egan will carry out and enrich the legacy left by John Cardinal O’Connor fostering harmony among the diverse religious groups of New York.
The Catholic-Jewish relationship in New York is unique and has contributed to Catholic-Jewish understanding and amity that has been an example beyond New York. We look forward to working with Bishop Egan and enhancing the ongoing dialogue and programs between the Archdiocese and the Jewish community.
