"Charitable Choice" Provision is "Most Seriously Flawed
Yet." ADL Calls on House Members to Vote Against H.R. 7
New York, NY, July 17, 2001 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), through its
network of 30 regional offices and constituents across the country, is reaching
out to every member of the House of Representatives urging a vote against the
"charitable choice" expansion provision of the Community Solutions Act
of 2001 (H.R. 7).
"This week, the House will vote on one of the most seriously flawed
versions of charitable choice legislation we have seen," said Glen A.
Tobias, ADL National Chairman, and Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director.
"The ‘charitable choice’ expansion provisions of H.R. 7 simply fail to
provide meaningful protections to recipients.
"We urge all members of the House to reject this version, which does not
go far enough to ensure that religious freedoms will be protected. ‘Charitable
Choice’ is not only bad public policy; it is also bad for religion."
ADL is part of a broad coalition of civil rights, religious, education and
service organizations opposing the "charitable choice" expansion
elements of H.R. 7, the Community Solutions Act of 2001.
