Anti-Semitic Books Published Under Egyptian Government Auspices
Posted: February 18, 2004
Anti-Semitic books, including the infamous Protocols of the Elders of Zion, are being published by Egyptian government-owned publishing houses.
Anti-Semitic publications, filled with anti-Jewish conspiracy theories are nothing new in the Egyptian marketplace. Making this problem worse, is the official government imprimatur to many of these books. The two books described below were produced by the culture department of Akhbar al-Yom (the publishing house of the newspaper under the same name) which is one of the five publishing houses that are controlled by the government and subject to its censorship.
Below are excerpts from two recent publications:
Husein 'Abed al-Wahed, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, Cairo: Akhbar al-Yom, July 2002
In addition to the full text of the Protocols, the book contains four chapters as follows:
1. The Zionist Danger
2. The Talmud and the Torah
3. Anti-Semitism - the Jews' Biggest Lie
4. Will the World Wake Up before the Disaster?
On each page opening a chapter there is a short summary of the chapters' content. For example, in the chapter dealing with anti-Semitism, it says: "One of the most dangerous weapons that the world Zionism used in order to rob the world and terrorize it, is the accusation of anti-Semitism and the legend about the war against the Jews or the Holocaust..." In addition, the name of the chapter and the summary appears under the attached graphics (the menorah, the Torah, the Star of David and a double-headed snake).
A blurb inside the book claims copies are being sold in many countries, including England, France, Germany, Italy, Holland, Switzerland, Greece, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Canada, the United States and Australia.
Hanafi al-Mahlawi, The Jews' Crimes against the Monotheistic Religions, Cairo: Akhbar al-Yom, 2002
Here are excerpts from the book's introduction:
"There are tens of books published in Arabic and foreign languages, that described broadly the history of the Jews, the sons of Israel or Zionism. It is worth mentioning that most of them ignored, or omitted on purpose, any reference to the severe crimes that this race of people did, whether against themselves, against their prophets or against other nations and people…" (p. 5)
"After this clarification we continue to clarify the features of the Jews' crimes… as they were aimed… to one purpose: a war against the three monotheistic religions…" (pp. 6-7)
"The author ends the introduction with the following sentence: "We will enlighten the Jews' attempts to ruin the three monotheistic religions: Jews, Christianity and Islam".
In a previous study, ADL revealed a book series for Egyptian children that included many anti-Semitic tracts, that was published under the sponsorship of Egypt's first lady, Suzanne Mubarak.
