ANNAN CONDEMNS ANTI-SEMITISM; NOW UN MUST ACT

A wave of anti-Semitism is spreading across the world, driven by up-to-date technologies and mixing the old myths with wild new ones.

The new anti-Jewish hatred has spread virulently from the Arab-Muslim world to Europe.

The consequences are real: bombings, arson, assaults, ugly threats and slurs. It poisons national leaders and international institutions and conferences.

1. Report anti-Semitic incidents to Jewish organizations such as ADL and to law enforcement.

2. Urge elected officials - whether local, state or federal - and religious and cultural leaders to speak out and take action against anti-Semitism.

3. Inform ADL about anti-Semitic writings, Internet sites and radio or television broadcasts.

4. Educate children and teenagers to reject stereotypes and embrace respect for difference.

5. Above all, keep in mind that anti-Semitism is not "just a Jewish issue," but rather - like any form of hatred - a threat to the values of freedom and democracy.
