Arab Media Cartoons on the Goldstone Report

Mainstream daily newspapers across the Arab world were quick to comment on the release of the Goldstone Report, the analysis of Israel’s defensive military operation in Gaza by a fact-finding mission mandated by the United Nations Human Rights Council.

The fundamentally biased Goldstone report presumed Israeli guilt and ascribed to Israel malicious motives and intent in its actions in Gaza.

Not surprisingly, the report became fodder for cartoonists in the Arab and Muslim world, who portrayed Goldstone as a hero, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as getting what he deserves. Some of the cartoons featured classical anti-Semitic stereotypes of Jews, including exaggerated features.

The following is a selection of editorial cartoons that have appeared across the Arab world since the report’s release in late September.
