ADL Commends Harvard President for Standing Up to Anti-Semitism
The Anti-Defamation League praised Harvard University President Lawrence H. Summers for raising concerns about growing anti-Semitism on the college campus. In a speech at a prayer meeting on the first day of classes, President Summers said he was troubled that "serious and thoughtful people are advocating and taking actions that are anti-Semitic in their effect if not their intent." The Harvard President went on to express concern about campus-led divestment campaigns that single out Israel for criticism.

"Coming at a time when few administrators have been willing to stand up and condemn the growing anti-Semitism on campus, this is a very courageous and important statement," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director. "In the last year we witnessed a troubling upturn in the level of anti-Semitic rhetoric on campus, and what's frightening is that so few people have been willing to stand up and reject it. We commend President Summers for raising awareness of the growing anti-Semitism on campus."
