Taking a Stand Against Bullying, Name-Calling and Harassment RULE
Recent rises in youth violence and hate crimes, school harassment and bullying pose huge threats to student safety, academic achievement and the ability of schools to prepare each of tomorrow's citizens to live peaceably in a nation that is becoming increasingly diverse.

According to recent studies:
  • Almost a third of students in grades 6-10 - more than 5.7 million children nationwide - had been either the targets or perpetrators (or both) of bullying in the previous 30 days. 1
  • 83% of girls and 79% of boys report having experienced harassment at school, with more than 25% of students experiencing it "often;" 58% of the students had experienced physical harassment. 2
The Anti-Defamation League is proud to be a supporting partner of two current anti-bullying and anti-harassment initiatives:

"No Name-Calling Week," a project of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, and a coalition of more than 40 education, mental health, youth advocacy, and social justice organizations to address the problem of name-calling and bullying in U.S. schools. During the week of January 21-25, 2008, schools serving grades five through eight across the nation will take part in a week of educational activities aimed at stopping name-calling and creating safer and more inclusive schools for all students. Visit www.NoNameCallingWeek.org to register your school, receive educational materials, and find out more about this exciting project.

Take A Stand. Lend A Hand. Stop Bullying Now!

A National Bullying Prevention Campaign sponsored by the Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

This project attempts to raise awareness about bullying and to identify appropriate interventions to prevent and reduce bullying behaviors in schools across the nation.

Visit the Stop Bullying Now! Web site to access the campaign's Stop Bullying Now! Resource Kit, an animated serial comic about bullying, and other bullying prevention materials.
