Israel Update:
Bomb in Jerusalem Market, November 2, 2000

A bomb exploded in Jerusalem's crowded Mahane Yehuda market at 3:00 p.m. Israel time. Details are still unclear, but there are reports from the scene that bomb left at least two dead and 10 wounded. Mahane Yehuda, a popular open-air fruit and vegetable market in the center of the city, has been the target of earlier suicide bomb attacks. At this time, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack. According to Agence France-Presse, following reports earlier today of a new cease fire understanding (see related story) Hamas issued a statement calling on Palestinians to "target enemy soldiers and settlers in every place and to escalate attacks with weapons and will all ways of the resistance." "Hamas calls on the people not to listen to this call to stop your blessed intifada and to continue on the path of jihad (holy war) and resistance" On Wednesday, a bomb exploded outside of the Jerusalem Theatre, lightly injuring one person. Since the start of hostilities in late September, the Palestinian Authority has released Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists from PA prisons.
