Israel Update: Efrat Synagogue Desecrated, October 27, 2000
|
|
The main synagogue in the Israeli settlement
of Efrat was desecrated overnight. According to Efrat Chief rabbi Shlomo
Riskin, the synagogue walls were covered with anti-Semitic and anti-Israel
graffitti, written in Arabic and Hebrew, proclaiming "Hitler destroys
all of the vermin" and "Hizbollah is here." Fortunately, no
religious items were touched. In an interview with The Jerusalem
Post radio, Rabbi Riskin spoke about the excellent relations Efrat has
enjoyed with neighboring Arab villages, but he also said that the time is
ripe for Efrat to take additional security measures.
