Washington Update: The House Passes Resolution Expressing Solidarity with Israel

The House of Representatives passed [on 10/25] by a vote of 365-30, a
Resolution [H.Res.426] which expressed solidarity with Israel and condemning
the "Palestinian leadership for encouraging the violence and doing so
little for so long to stop it. " H.Res.426 calls upon the Palestinian
leadership to refrain from public incitement, to stop all violence, and to
settle all grievances through negotiations. The Resolution also commends
continuing US efforts in support of the peace process and urges the
Administration to use its seat on the UN Security Council to block
unbalanced UN resolutions. Lead sponsors of the bill include: Reps. Ben
Gilman (R-NY), Chairman of the House International Relations Committee; Sam
Gejdenson (D-CT), the committee's ranking Democrat; Dick Armey (R-TX), House
Majority Leader; Dick Gephardt (D-MO), House Minority Leader; Jerry Nadler
(D-NY); and Tom Reynolds (R-NY).
