Senior Law Enforcement Travel to Israel for Counterterrorism Training

Posted: November 15, 2007

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) brought 18 senior law enforcement executives to Israel November 2-11, 2007 to learn counterterrorism tactics and strategies from senior commanders in the Israel Police and Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Participants included chiefs and majors from major city departments including the Chicago, Houston and Atlanta Police Departments.

They were briefed by Deputy Commissioner Shachar Ayalon, Brigadier General Nir Meriesh, and Colonel Avshalom Peled of the Israel Police, as well as Major General Yosef Mishlev of the IDF, among others.  Participants were able to see firsthand how Israel secures its international airport, malls, and public and holy sites.

The participants were also able to learn about how the Israel Police responded to terrorist attacks at the site of suicide bombings and about how they responded to the summer 2006 war against Hezbollah along the Israel-Lebanon border.
