ADL experts presented two training sessions on hate crimes and criminal extremism to law enforcement officers in San Bernardino and Kern County in California. The presentations each focused on the distinction between hate crimes and hate incidents, identifying and recognizing hate motivated behavior, the California white power subculture and recognizing hate symbols.

On June 30, 2010, at the San Bernardino Police Department, 70 law enforcement officials from the following agencies attended the briefing: Riverside Sheriff’s Department, San Bernardino County Probation, San Bernardino Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Temecula Police Department, Downey Police Department, California Highway Patrol, Hesperia Sheriff Station, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and Fontana Police Department.

A week later, 55 law enforcement officials attended a symposium on hate crimes and extremism in Kern County on July 7, 2010.  The ADL co-presented with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the San Bernardino County District Attorney at the Bakersfield Police Department’s day long training.  Agencies in attendance included Bakersfield Police Department, Kern County Sheriff’s Department, Kern County District Attorney’s Office, California Department of Corrections, Bureau of Land Management and Taft Police Department.
