Ideology

Metzger pushes a fierce brand of anti-Semitic, racist and anti-immigrant invective, and he advocates violence against Jews, blacks, and other communities. He has portrayed Jews as “oven magnets” and greedy conspirators for world control, blacks as criminal savages, and non-white undocumented immigrants as dirty leeches. One of the most influential aspects of Metzger's right-wing ideology and activism has been his advocacy of the “lone wolf” or “leaderless resistance” model of extremism, which favors individual or small-cell underground activity, as opposed to above-ground membership organizations.

According to the lone wolf model, individuals and small cells leave behind the fewest clues for law enforcement authorities, decreasing the chances that activists will end up getting caught. Specific guidelines to which lone wolves are urged to adhere include: act alone and leave no evidence; do not commit robbery to obtain operating funds; act silently and anonymously; do not deface your body with identifiable tattoos; understand that you are expendable; and whatever happens, do not grovel. Leaderless resistance dovetails with Metzger's oft-expressed advice never to answer questions posed by law enforcement. He has instructed followers to solely use the five word phrase “I have nothing to say” when questioned.

Metzger also advocates an ideology known as the “Third Position.” Third positioners claim that there is a “third” alternative to socialism and capitalism that goes beyond traditional right or left political orientations. In practice, third positionism is nationalistic and infused with racism and anti-Semitism.

Like many other white supremacists and anti-Semites, Metzger has adopted an anti-immigrant, anti-Hispanic ideology, even advocating violent action against undocumented immigrants. He is currently selling stickers that read “USA illegal immigrant hunting permit” from his Web site.

Metzger's site also features a game called “Border Patrol,” in which players gun down stereotyped representations of undocumented immigrants entering the United States from Mexico. “Don't let those spics cross our border!” is written under the link to the game.

In May 2002, Metzger also encouraged followers to work for the U.S. border patrol, writing that "the Aryan Syndicate has been notified by insiders that the Immigration and Naturalization Service is looking for White Power People to help guard the borders…apply today!"

Cartoons posted to Metzger's Web site and featured in his newspaper most expressively represent his views. A sampling of captions conveys their tone:

On Jews: “Jews…they fret…they panic…they brood…They feverishly examine their stool and look under the bed for Nazis…They harbor perverse desires and foster chaos…They fear and hate everything and everyone…even themselves. Avoid the neurotic, self-loathing Jew at all costs.”
On blacks: “Coon, coon…black baboon…brutal, worthless, thieving goon…often high…thrives in jail…his welfare check is in the mail…some 40 offspring have been had, no one will ever call him Dad…”
On the Holocaust: “Who but the shameless, scurvy Jews could open a chain of exhibits coast to coast which showcase the misery and grisly death of 'beloved family members'…actually pimping the pain of their ancestors for a hefty admission fee!”
