Shaun Patrick Winkler, a member of the neo-Nazi group Aryan Nations, was found guilty of battery and two counts of injuring a child in a jury trial in Kootenai County, Idaho.  The trial court sentenced Winkler to three consecutive terms of six months in county jail.

After the verdict was read,  reportedly became visibly irritated and refused to cooperate with court officials, attempting to spit at a witness as he was being led from the courtroom. Winkler faces additional felony charges of battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and intimidating a witness stemming from the April 28 incident.

Winkler, 24, was convicted for assaulting Michael Teague, another member of Aryan Nations, and Teague's two young daughters with pepper spray in front of a convenience store.  Winkler was acquitted of assaulting Teague's wife. 

The incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the two neo-Nazis over weapons. The two men were involved in a similar confrontation days earlier at the home of Aryan Nations' 86-year-old founder, Richard Butler.  Winkler tried to spray Teague with pepper spray at that time as well, but instead sprayed a Hayden Lake police officer at the scene, and was arrested.

In 2002, Butler handed most of his power over to a small group that included Winkler, who was seen as Butler's representative.  Winkler's influence disappeared after Butler reconciled with his chief rival, Ray Redfeairn (since deceased).
