Tennessee White Supremacist Fugitive Added to Wanted List

Posted: November 11, 2009

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has added a white supremacist fugitive, wanted for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, to their list of Top Ten Most Wanted.

The TBI added Michael Joseph Shirley, 29, to their list on November 4, 2009, after a warrant was issued for his arrest for first-degree murder.

On November 3, officers with the Marion County Sheriff's Department responded to a possible car crash where they found a burned vehicle but could not locate a driver.  At the same time, deputies were called to a nearby mobile home in Whitwell, at which the door was reportedly left open.

Deputies at the home discovered blood splatter in the kitchen and a deceased female in the bedroom.  The 27-year-old woman had been stabbed and beaten to death.  Her two small children were asleep in the other room.

Investigators soon discovered that the car at the crash scene was registered to the female victim, Shirley's girlfriend.  The two lived together along with their two children.

Shirley, who has a huge swastika tattoo with the words "White Power" covering his back, has a long and violent criminal record, including assaulting a police officer, aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, theft, drug charges, evading arrest, and DUI.

Shirley is described as a white male with brown hair and brown eyes, approximately 6'3", and 225 pounds, with numerous tattoos.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.

He is considered armed and dangerous.
