A judge in Claremont, California, sentenced Joseph McCool to eight years in prison on May 1, 2008.  McCool is the final defendant to be sentenced for stabbing an African-American man at a shopping center in 2006.  In December 2007 a jury convicted McCool of attempted murder, assault and hate crime charges. Two co-defendants, Anthony Allen and Ryan White, were also convicted in December, and were sentenced in April 2008.

Anthony Scott Allen, 23, of Big Bear, received a sentence of 10 years in state prison. Ryan Christopher White, 28, of Joshua Tree, received 13 years in state prison. White's higher sentence is due to the jury finding that he and McCool were the actual stabbers in the incident, as well as his numerous prior convictions including evading a police officer in a vehicle pursuit.  

Joseph Dale McCool, 20, of Redlands, will be sentenced in late April in Pomona. A fourth defendant, Chad Timothy Milson, 20, of Yucca Valley, pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact and testified for the prosecution.

Allen, White, and McCool were convicted in December 2007 of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon as hate crimes for stabbing an African-American man at a Claremont shopping center.   The men were on their way to a neo-Nazi rally in Westwood at the time of the December 2006 incident. The victim was beaten and stabbed six times.
