The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) South Florida chapter created the "Calling Islam" campaign in November 2008. The campaign was ostensibly designed to provide information about Islam and to counter negative portrayal of the religion.
CAIR reportedly paid $60,000 to run the "Calling Islam" advertisement through January 2009 on 50 buses in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. The advertisement included the banner reading: "Islam: The way of life of Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad" along with a toll-free hotline. The campaign's Web site was also featured on the advertisement.
The Web site includes conspiratorial anti-Semitic material. For example, one page of the site is dedicated to Harun Yahya, an anti-Semitic Turkish writer. In one article included on the page, Yahya denounces Zionism as "a racist and colonialist ideology" and as a fascist movement that is akin to Nazism. Yahya also quotes Holocaust-denier Roger Garaudy.
A link to the Jews for Allah Web site, which aims to convert Jews to Islam, is also listed as one of the "resources" for users listed on the "Calling Islam" site. Jews for Allah, which is anti-Semitic and virulently anti-Israel, was created by Yusuf al-Khatab, founder of the hateful extremist group Revolution Muslim that justifies violent attacks against non-Muslims.
