Muslim preachers and politicians have sought to make Al Aksa a symbol in the battleground for the honor of Islam. Their allegation that Jews intend to desecrate or destroy the Al Aksa Mosque threatens to inflame a region still smoldering from past wars and intifadas.  Worse, the universal reverence of Muslims for Al Aksa makes it all the more likely that this libel will transcend Middle Eastern media markets and find credulous audiences worldwide.  Muslim religious leaders, politicians and journalists who promote allegation of a widespread, state sanctioned "Jewish threat" to Al Aksa should therefore be condemned and marginalized by all seekers of genuine peace.
