June 4-5, 2010: "Global Day to Break Israeli Siege"
May 31-June 1, 2010

As part of a "Global Day to Break Israeli Siege," anti-Israel groups around the country organized dozens of demonstrations and rallies on June 4 and 5, 2010. Many of the rallies were used as a platform to condemn Israel and Zionism, advocate for a boycott of Israel and call for an end to Israel's "siege" of Gaza.

June 4, 2010

  • Boston, MA:
Several dozen people protested outside the JFK Federal Building chanting, "Boycott Israel," "Resistance is justified when people are occupied" and "Stop Israeli apartheid in Gaza." A representative from the American Friends Service Committee addressed protesters and called Israel a "genocidal regime" and expressed support for the Free Gaza Movement because of the "genocide" in Gaza. Many individuals held signs, some of which read, "Israel is a rogue state," "Denying Palestinian Ethnic Cleansing By Israel is as Immoral as Denying the Holocaust" and "From the river to the Sea Palestine will be free." The organizers of the protest had not obtained a permit to rally and police ended the demonstration after an hour.  The protest was organized by the Boston Coalition for Palestinian Rights and fliers from the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation and If Americans Knew were distributed.

  • Dallas, TX:
Several hundred demonstrators gathered on the grassy knoll of Dealey Plaza waving Palestinian flags and holding signs that read, "USA: Stop Aid to Israel," "Holy Land, Unholy War" and "Israel, A Strategic Liability." Protesters chanted, "Killing aid workers is a crime," "Obama, Obama can't you see, Israel keeps on bombing me" and "Occupation is a crime, Israel out of Palestine." One organizer read a message from Greta Berlin, a co-founder of the Free Gaza Movement, who said that "Israel has been murdering and maiming Palestinians for 62 years as the world has turned away."  Berlin called for "Israeli war criminals" to be sent to The Hague and for the world to demand Israel "give up nuclear weapons." A leader of North Texas BDS and the
US Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel addressed the crowd and said her group calls on universities and other institutions to divest from Israel until Israel stops its "ongoing occupation, oppression and genocide of the Palestinian people."

  • Houston, TX: Approximately 70 individuals held a vigil outside the Israeli Consulate. They waved Palestinian and Turkish flags and one woman held a sign reading, "Stop Israel's Genocide in Gaza." A member of Houston Truth, a 9-11 conspiracy group, participated in the vigil and alleged that Hitler was financed by the World Bank, which was "control[led] by the Rothschild family". The vigil was sponsored by the Houston Coalition for Justice and Peace in Palestine.

  • Los Angeles, CA:
Approximately 100 protesters gathered outside the Israeli Consulate holding signs that read, "Israel = the Holocaust," "Shame on the Criminal State of Israel," "Zionism = Apartheid" and "U.S. Aid Funds Israeli Piracy and Murder." One man came dressed up as Hitler and had a flag depicting swastikas as equivalent to the Star of David. A group called the Aztec Tribal Dancers alleged that the immigration issue in Arizona is analogous to Israeli policy, stating, "Apartheid is wrong, from Arizona to Palestine." The protest was sponsored by numerous groups, including the
ANSWER Coalition, Al-Awda, Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Free Palestine Alliance and the Palestinian American Women's Association.

  • San Diego, CA: Approximately 75 protesters gathered outside the Federal Building holding signs that read, "Palestine is a Large Concentration Camp," "Israel Out of Palestine" and "End Occupations. Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine." Representatives from the International Socialist Organization and ANSWER participated in the protest.
