PFLP Calls for Takeover of Israeli Embassies

Posted: January 16, 2009

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a terrorist organization responsible for attacks against Israelis since the 1960s, called for an “escalation and expansion of direct action, particularly the takeover of embassies of Israel and its allies” on its English-language Web site.

The PFLP site praises “the hundreds of thousands internationally who have continued to take to the streets,” in particular those that “attempted to enter and take over the Israeli embassy” on January 10, 2008 in London

It also calls for “the broadest mass demonstrations and the escalation of popular international action, especially the takeover of the embassies of the occupier, in the face of crimes and massacres, as the people of the world march arm in arm with the people of Palestine against occupation and oppression and towards victory!”

Other accusations on the PFLP site contend that Israel is attacking Palestinian journalists, using live ammunition against demonstrators in the West Bank, and using white phosphorous and U.S. made and funded weaponry against the people in Gaza “as it continues its massacres.”

A statement from Ahmad Sa’adat, the imprisoned General Secretary of PFLP, calling for “Gaza to be turned into a graveyard for the occupiers” is included on the PFLP site as well.

The English-language Web site, which was launched in December 2007 in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the organization’s founding, is less radical than its Arabic language site. The latter includes articles endorsing the launching of missile attacks against Israel, often referred to as “Zionists settlements.” The English site does not explicitly incite violence, although it does encourage “the resistance in Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine and elsewhere.” Instead, it focuses on encouraging people to attend events, rallies and demonstrations.

Since the beginning of Israel’s military action against Hamas in Gaza, anti-Israel activists have participated in hundreds of demonstrations around the world, some of which that have turned violent.  Some of the demonstrators use these anti-Israel rallies to express extreme anti-Israel and anti-Zionist messages, to engage in anti-Semitic rhetoric and offensive Holocaust imagery likening Jews and Israelis to Nazis, as well as to express support for terror.
