To the Editor:

Glenn Greenwald completely distorts what the Anti-Defamation League said in its statement about the Center for American Progress to make it appear that ADL was smearing anyone who "blames Israel for the lack of progress in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict" or  "minimizes or rationalizes" the Iranian nuclear threat as anti-Semitic.

In fact, we did no such thing. We pointed out in our statement that we only found two statements associated with CAP that raised concerns about anti-Semitism: claims that American Jews were "Israel-firsters," and accusations that the Israel lobby was marching America to war with Iran as it allegedly did with Iraq.

Having made clear that there were only these two examples, we then said that we also strongly disagreed with other Middle East positions coming out of CAP and its blogs having nothing to do with anti-Semitism.

Included in these were their tendency "to blame Israel for lack of progress" toward peace and their "minimizing or rationalizing the Iranian threat."  It is clear from our statement that we were making a clear distinction between anti-Semitic positions and those that we disagreed with but were definitely not anti-Semitic.

Mr. Greenwald can disagree with us on substantive issues regarding the Middle East. He has, however, no right to distort our views in such a grotesque manner.
