Letters to the Editor Ha'aretz, Israel |
January 6, 2005 |
To the Editor:
Regarding "Seeing Stars," December 31:
The residents of Gush Katif who have taken to wearing an orange star are sending an appalling and misguided message to the people of Israel and the world by this public relations ploy aimed at fostering attention to their opposition to the disengagement plan.
While the settlers have every right to peacefully and democratically protest this plan, likening the Holocaust to this political process, no matter how painful, has the effect of fueling Holocaust denial by delegitimizing the unprecedented horror of the Shoah. Furthermore, utilizing Holocaust imagery in this way is an offense to Holocaust survivors and the Jewish people, and taints the memory of its victims.
