To the Editor:

Re "Far from Ground Zero, Obscure Pastor Is Ignored No Longer" (news article, Aug. 26):

Whatever one's feelings about the proposed Islamic center near ground zero, there is no excuse for the kind of anti-Muslim bigotry espoused by Terry Jones, pastor of the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Fla.

His proposal to hold an "International Burn a Koran Day" on Sept. 11 has shocked Floridians, the vast majority of whom clearly reject his message.

There is no room for anti-Muslim bigotry in our society. Throughout the mosque controversy, the Anti-Defamation League has made this clear.

We hope that others in our community and across the country join us in loudly condemning such blatant appeals to bigotry that play upon myths, falsehoods and stereotypes to denigrate the Muslim faith.

  Sincerely,

Andrew Rosenkranz
Florida Regional Director
