To the Editor:
Re "Hamas, the I.R.A. and Us (op-ed, Aug. 29):
All of Ali Abunimah's arguments on negotiations, Hamas, and the right of return are all geared to bolster what he doesn't discuss and which is a non-starter: a one-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
It is this kind of approach that has been responsible for so much Palestinian suffering – the focus on how to bring down the Jewish state rather than how to change the lives of Palestinians.
The fact that 62 years after Israel's founding, Palestinians are still seeking formulas to bring about Israel's demise is destructive – destructive to the hopes for peace, and destructive to the future of the Palestinian people.
