Letters to the Editor
The New York Times

     June 22, 2010

To the Editor:

Re "Easing the Gaza Blockade" (editorial, June 22): While you point to the blockade as the cause of "widespread suffering" in Gaza you fail to mention the continued imprisonment of Gilad Shalit, who remains in captivity after being kidnapped by Hamas from an Israeli military base four years ago this week.  The children of Gaza will now be able to play with new toys, but Aviva and Noam Shalit still do not have their son back.

With international approval of Israel's new policy on the blockade, the international community, the media, and non-governmental organizations should pay equal attention and energy to demanding the release of Shalit.

  Sincerely,

The Anti-Defamation League
