ADL Letter to The View
|

Joy Behar Co-Host, "The View" ABC News The Walt Disney Company 77 West 66th Street New York, NY 10023 |
December 19, 2006 |
Dear Ms. Behar,
We were deeply disturbed by your remark on the December 18 episode of "The View" where, in discussing Time Magazine's "Person of the Year" cover with your co-hosts, you remarked, "You have to put a Hitler type there, like a Donald Rumsfeld."
Whatever your views on Donald Rumsfeld, the comparison to Hitler was inappropriate and offensive. Hitler's actions during the Second World War and his responsibility for the Holocaust have no parallel in history. It does a great disservice to history and the memory of the six million Jews and others killed by the Nazis -- and those who fought bravely against them --when Hitler's name is taken out of context or used for personal attacks or vendettas.
We hope that you will not use Hitler comparisons in the future.

Sincerely,
Abraham H. Foxman National Director
