I am writing to thank you for your sensitive and appropriate remembrance of the eleven Israeli athletes killed by terrorists in the 1972 Munich Olympics during your coverage of the opening of the 2012 Olympic Games on July 27.
The words you chose, the sentiment they expressed and the moments of silence which followed were a fitting tribute to these fallen members of Israel's Olympic team, and a demonstration of respect which unfortunately the International Olympic Committee has stubbornly refused to similarly convey.
For those of us who watched the television coverage of the Munich attack in September 1972, your understanding of this tragic chapter of Olympic history brought to mind the very human spirit conveyed by the late sportscaster Jim McKay in his reports from Munich.
