ADL Will Bring Anti-Bias Education Programs to Argentina
New York, NY, May 25, 2001 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is expanding
its internationally renowned anti-bias education programs to Argentina as part
of a collaborative effort between a foundation, government officials and the ADL
A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute.
With a grant from the Fundacion Banco De La Provincia De Buenos Aires, the
League has agreed to provide a Train-the-Trainer™ workshop for representatives
of various government ministries. The goal is to eventually replicate ADL’s
anti-bias training and resources in classrooms and workplaces across Argentina.
The grant provides for the first step in the program’s implementation.
The Train-the-Trainer™ program being implemented in Argentina is similar to
anti-bias education and diversity awareness initiatives that ADL has
successfully replicated in Germany, Belgium, Austria and elsewhere, based on a
model that is widely used in the United States. As part of the process, a core
group of eight "master trainers" will learn to facilitate workshops
and train others to do the same. The trainers also will help to translate the
League’s highly acclaimed anti-bias curriculum into Spanish.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for ADL to expand its educational
outreach with programming in Argentina," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL
National Director. "The A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® program has opened the
lines of communication between diverse groups in several European nations where
bias and prejudice remain deeply entrenched. We look forward to a productive
collaboration with the foundation and government in bringing anti-bias training
programs to the workplaces, government agencies, universities and schools of
A contract for the project’s first phase was signed at a ceremony today
attended by Mr. Foxman; Fernando W. Maurette, Chairman of the Fundacion Banco De
La Provincia De Buenos Aires; Caryl Stern, ADL Director of Education and Rabbi
Leon Klenicki, ADL Consultant for Interfaith Affairs.
Representatives from Argentina’s ministries of Security, Police, Education,
Public Services, Media, Human Development and Human Rights participated in
preliminary workshop sessions in April held at ADL’s National Headquarters in
New York City.
ADL’s A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute provides diversity education
programs to schools, universities, corporations, communities and law enforcement
agencies throughout the U.S. and abroad. Since its inception in 1985, the
program has reached more than 360,000 elementary and secondary school teachers,
responsible for nearly 15 million public, private and parochial school students.
A WORKPLACE OF DIFFERENCE™ has provided more than 100,000 adults employed in
more than 100 corporations in the public and private sector with skills to
improve communication and reduce conflict.
The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
